The patient is at the heart of the training mission of the Jérôme Lejeune Institute

The medical and paramedical team of the Institute is at pains to share its expertise with families and healthcare professionals specializing in mental disabilities, with the aim of optimizing the management of people having a genetic disease with intellectual disability.

Training for families

In addition to consultations, at which dialog with the families is particularly important, specific training is provided for the families of patients, to deal with medical and educational issues in greater depth.

The objective of these training courses is to provide families with the keys and tools to help them assist their child, brother, sister or other close relative with a mental disability.

The training offered corresponds to the principal concerns specific to each age group: infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age.

Training for professionals

The doctors and paramedics of the Institute are passionate about their work and wish to improve the management of people with intellectual disabilities. For this reason, it is an objective close to their hearts to transmit their expertise and know-how to other healthcare and medicosocial professionals, who, due to the nature of their work, come into regular or occasional contact with these people and wish to acquire good practices for their management and assistance.

Different doctors and paramedics with expertise in the domain of intellectual deficiency are involved in delivering each training course, facilitating complementary approaches and teaching from different standpoints.

Hosting trainees

Since its creation, the Jérôme Lejeune Institute has already welcomed several hundred trainees – medical interns, young doctors, paramedics, etc. Some come for short term internships (less than 15 days), others for longer internships, under convention.

These experiences are an opportunity to immerse yourself in the medical expertise and know-how that the Institute has acquired over the past 20 years, always with a view to offer optimal care to people having a genetic disease with an intellectual disability.

Writing articles for medical, paramedical or scientific journals

Each year, the practitioners of the Jérôme Lejeune Institute publish articles to share their experience or present research work.
